Seemingly, farm to town restaurants are not as wholesome as we originally thought. As if we needed another subject to be skeptical of. An article on Saveur brings attention to the wide-spread corruption in restaurants claiming to include only local and organic ingredients on their menus. For example, Gary Moran, Chef at the Mermaid Tavern in Tampa, Florida claimed to be using "Florida wild caught" shrimp, when in reality, the shrimp were from a farm in India. Author Katherine Wittaker suggests asking restaurants for the names of the farms from which they receive their ingredients before believing what you read (and eat).
